What is Crimemapping?
Technology has come a long way and the internet has been a big help to law enforcement agencies. Crimemapping.com was developed to help police agencies provide the public with valuable information about recent criminal activity in their neighborhood.
All criminal activity is retrieved from the existing law enforcement’s record system on a daily basis and confirmed before it is entered on the map.
When you go to crimemapping.com, you enter a specific address, city or state. You can also search by agency, date or crime type. It is set up so that you can filter the specific crime type, such as burglary, motor vehicle theft, assault, sexual abuse, homicide, and theft.
You then choose a specific date and the radius. As shown below, Everett, Washington was chosen for the location and within 1.0 miles of the address. From 2/4/15 through 2/10/15 one hundred and fifty nine crimes were reported.
Crimemapping also has the capability to create detailed and trend reports. Here is a sample detailed report for address 1732 Broadway and within 1.0 mile radius. The report details the description of the crime, location, case #, agency and date of the criminal activity.
You can also sign up to be alerted when a crime has taken place in a specific area or neighborhood. When a crime occurs in that particular area, an email will be sent to you with a detailed report telling you exactly what crimes have occurred and where they happened.
